The Mesa County Building Department manages permits for all unincorporated areas of the county. Incorporated municipalities, such as Grand Junction, Fruita, and Palisade, maintain their own independent building departments and permit portals for properties within their respective city limits. Development in unincorporated areas is subject to additional review for floodplains and wildfire hazard zones.
Mesa County enforces specific wildfire mitigation standards for new construction and additions located within designated Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) areas.
